Van works is a member in the law firm of Dykema Cox Smith. but his first love is code. He is known for his work in open source, in patent reform, and in directing litigation against patent trolls. In 2012 he was named one of "America's Top 12 Techiest Attorneys" by the American Bar Association Journal.
